LEDCo Limited, a leading innovative energy manufacturer, has partnered with the Lagos State government to launch a groundbreaking Solar Street Lighting Project. The initiative will involve installing 20,000 units of LEDCo’s advanced NightSUN solar lights across the city.
Each NightSUN unit is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including intelligent monitoring systems, GPS tracking, and a 10-year warranty, ensuring reliable and efficient performance. The project will also provide 6MW of renewable solar power and 24.5MWh of energy storage, contributing to improved public safety, urban mobility, and the long-term sustainability of Lagos State’s energy infrastructure while significantly reducing its carbon footprint.
Mr Abiodun Ogunleye formally signed the agreement for the project, Commissioner for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), representing the Lagos State government, and Ms Fatimata Abiola-Odunowo, Executive Director of LEDCo Limited, on behalf of the company.
Ms. Abiola-Odunowo described the project as a significant milestone in Lagos State’s pursuit of energy-neutral goals. This is in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES agenda, which focuses on sustainability, innovation, and environmental stewardship.
“This transformative initiative builds on LEDCo’s ongoing partnership with Lagos State, which began in 2018,” she said. “Through innovative energy efficiency solutions and renewable energy technologies, we are helping to create a cleaner, more energy-efficient future. This project reinforces Lagos State’s position as a leader in sustainable urban transformation, setting a benchmark for cities across Africa and beyond.”
These bright solar lights are expected to improve safety in underserved areas, reduce carbon emissions, and serve as a model for other African cities looking to incorporate clean energy into their urban planning. With its focus on innovation and sustainability, the project further strengthens Lagos’ position as a forward-thinking, eco-conscious city.
