LG Electronics Launches Solar-Powered Boreholes in Port Harcourt Communities

LG Electronics has inaugurated solar-powered boreholes in the Nkpogu and Elekahia communities in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to improve access to clean water. The initiative is part of the company’s commitment to sustainable development, community empowerment, and enhancing living conditions for underserved populations.

Hari Elluru, Head of Corporate Marketing at LG Electronics Nigeria, expressed the company’s honour in supporting the communities with a solution that addresses a fundamental need clean water. He stated, “This initiative reflects our broader commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainability, aiming to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve.”

The project is expected to enhance daily living standards, reduce waterborne diseases, and provide a reliable source of clean water. Local leaders, community members, and school authorities gathered at the ceremony to acknowledge LG’s efforts in supporting community development in Port Harcourt.

Eze Nchemini of Rebisi and Hon. Okechukwu Abbey, Secretary of the Port Harcourt City Council of Traditional Rulers, expressed their gratitude for LG’s contribution to improving essential infrastructure and fostering social and economic progress in the region.

Mahmoud Youssef, branch manager of Fouani Nigeria, emphasised the importance of clean and safe drinking water for health and well-being. He noted that the solar-powered system would remain efficient and cost-effective over time, ensuring a long-term reliable water source for Nkpogu. Youssef also highlighted the role of community involvement in the project’s success, stating that residents would be trained to manage and maintain the system.

This project is part of LG Electronics’ ongoing efforts to create sustainable solutions that positively impact local communities, reinforcing the company’s commitment to fostering a sustainable future where clean water is accessible to all.
