LG Electronics Inc has set a target of 100 per cent clean energy in all of its businesses globally by 2050. The company plans to meet these targets via installing solar panels, purchasing renewable energy certificates, and signing power purchase agreements (PPAs). These plans are set to be implemented in several stages.
LG says that it will commence the process in North America, where its local subsidiary plans to deploy renewables to meet its production, logistics and office energy needs by the end of teh year. LG plans to run all of its overseas production units fully with clean energy by 2025. According to LG, its Indian factory already has a 3.2MW solar power system installed. At the same time, in its home country Korea, it hopes to 60 per cent and 90 per cent of its energy needs with renewable energy by 2030 and 2040, respectively.
