LIBERIA: LEC Proposes a Reduction in Electricity Tariffs

The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has proposed a tariff reduction for electricity consumers. The proposed tariffs, if approved, will take effect in January 2022 and will affect residential, commercial, and industrial customers. The LEC has also proposed incentives for commercial and industrial customers.

Speaking on the development, the Executive Director, Commercial and Regulatory Services at the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), Sam Zimbe, stated that the LEC has also proposed a Block Tariff structure for residential customers. The block tariff will be implemented according to the consumption patterns of residential customers to maintain equity and fairness.

The LEC has submitted its tariff application to the Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC). The LERC  has begun consultations with stakeholders on the proposed tariff in line with the Electricity Tariff Regulations.
