LERC issued six separate licenses to LEC
- Licenses include generation, transmission, distribution
- Other licenses are for system operation and electricity importation
The Liberian Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) has issued a total of six Licenses to the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC). The LERC Chairman, Dr. Lawrence D. Sekajipo on Tuesday issued the operating licenses to the LEC during the certification ceremony.
Dr. Sekajipo said the licenses issued are in the 2015 Electricity Law of Liberia which allows an entity to engage in more than one Electricity Supply Industry (ESI) activity. He added the licenses will open up a pathway for investments in Liberia’s electricity sector. He pleaded with the Licensees to ensure they utilise the licenses for the improvement of electricity supply in the country. “What the Commission and consumers require of LEC is – adequacy in generation; grid resilience; distribution equipment reliability and enhanced customer service, which are prerequisites for instilling investor and consumer confidence in the electricity supply industry”.
The licenses issued include Generation (for Hydro and Thermal), Transmission, Distribution, System Operation, and Import Licenses.
