Liberian President to Tackle Airports Electrical Damages

  • Roberts International Airport suffers electrical damages.
  • President Weah forms a committee to solve RIA’s electrical problems.
  • Solar systems to be used in improving the RIA’s current difficulties.

According to Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Nathaniel McGill, President George Weah is concerned about the current state of the Roberts International Airport (RIA), and efforts are being made to fix the problem. The RIA, under acting Managing Director Martin Hayes, has been confronted with significant operational challenges, making it difficult to illuminate the airport at night.

Minister McGill announced that a special cabinet team would liaise with the airport authorities to make quick interventions as part of the immediate priority. He named some of the prompt interventions the working of the air navigation system, which has not been changed for over 25 years, the improvement of stable electricity including another source of power, a solar system, and the increase in fire system equipment, among others.

“The RIA Management has been working on it already, but we will work with them now to accelerate the process due to the President’s importance to the issue,” he added.
