Liberians Take to the Streets Demanding Electricity

The residents of a Jallah community in Monrovia, Liberia have taken to the streets in protests against the lack of electricity supply. They set up roadblocks demanding stable and affordable electricity from the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC).

According to the protesting community, despite several complaints to the LEC, the town has remained without electricity for over three years. They accused the government and the LEC of ignoring their requests for connection. The protesters accused President George Weah led administration of paying more attention to street lights than, community connection.

In an interview with FrontpageAfrica, the Chairman of Jallah community, Patrick Karmo said, “Since 2019 up to present, I have written over 16 communications. We have protested at the Capitol Building and wrote lawmakers and others, but nothing has changed”.

Mr. Karmo also stated that the community depends on electricity for its economic activities.
