GECOL to increase load-shedding hours
- To carry out maintenance work on network
- Temperature increases affecting supply
Libyan state-owned electricity company General Electricity Company (GECOL) has announced plans to increase load shedding hours in the country’s capital Tripoli. This is due to the failure of Units V and VI at the Western Mountain Gas station.
GECOL announced that the load shedding will be increased from two to three hours. During the outage period, GECOL will carry out maintenance works on its network infrastructure. The load shedding will continue for the period until the units are back up and running. The state-owned electricity company had previously denied reports of a fire incident at the station.
The Chairman of the Board of GECOL Engineer Waaem Abdali met with some members of the House of Representatives to discuss the grid challenges and how to resolve them.
