- GECOL tests turbines at Ubari plant
The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) has carried out turbine tests at the West Tripoli and Ubari power plants. The sixth steam turbine at West Tripoli has been redundant in the last ten years. Similarly, GECOL carried out operational tests of the first gas unit at the Ubari station. The tests at the Ubari plant were successful, and the second turbine of the gas-fired plant has been connected to the national grid. The Ubari plant will add at least 165MW to Libya’s national grid.
Works on the Ubari power plant stalled following the exit of the foreign executing company. The West Tripoli power plant is the older in the country and has a generating capacity of 600MW.
