Libya’s government has announced the approval of funding for the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) as part of its plans to improve the electricity supply infrastructure and reduce power cuts during the summer season. This comes as temperatures soar as the peak summer season approaches.

The approval was made at the meeting of the Country’s Cabinet. Under the GECOL funding, projects will include, the supply and installation of 40 mobile power stations up to 600MW, the reconstruction of southern Tripoli supply of stations, massive overhauls of the steam units at the dual power station of Zawia, North Benghazi, Brega and Ras Lanuf power station; the implementation of the urgent Derna gas station to generate electric power.
