- Libya Joins International Energy Forum as 72nd Member.
- The IEF’s mission is to promote global dialogue on energy security, market stability and data transparency, as well as new technologies and the energy transition.
The International Energy Forum (IEF) has announced Libya as the newest member of the world’s largest organization of energy ministers, bringing the total IEF membership to 72 countries.
In line with the IEF’s mission to promote global dialogue on energy security, market stability and data transparency, as well as new technologies and the energy transition, the Secretary-General Joseph McMonigle, said: “We look forward to working with Libya to enhance and strengthen the global energy dialogue.”
Libyan minister of Oil and Gas Mohamed M. Oun said: “We will strive along with other member countries to achieve the goals of the IEF as we recognize the critical importance of the IEF as it represents over 90 per cent of the world’s production, consumption, marketing and processing of all sources of energy. As an established producer of oil and gas for decades, Libya intends to play a positive and impactful role in the forum and will work with other IEF members to achieve its targets.”
Libya is also a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO).
Founded 30 years ago to promote dialogue between energy producers and consumers of OPEC and IEA, the IEF today has more members than both groups combined, including many unaligned countries including Argentina, India, South Africa and China.
