General Manager of Algerian energy firm, Sonelgaz Chaher Boulakhras, has sought the cooperation of the Libyan General Electricity Company GECOL) for the provision of electricity during summer. The meeting held in GECOL, and Sonelgaz held in Tripoli.
Boulakhras stated that his visit to Libya was necessary to discuss the agreements signed with Algeria to boost cooperation between the two countries on electricity supply. He added that the visit would aid in implementing the first phase of the agreements signed at the Libyan-Algerian Economic Forum. ”We are meeting today to examine the content of the agreement signed between our two companies with a view to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the electric energy sector”, Boulakhras said.
The first phase involves supplying up to 200MW of electricity via the Tunisian network in the next few days. GECOL and Sonelgaz have also agreed to launch a direct electrical connection between the two countries; the studies on the project are ongoing.
Boulakhras reiterated Algeria’s commitment to supporting Libya’s electricity sector.
