General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) has begun carrying out Civil works and excavations at the site of the West Tripoli Emergency Electricity project.
The West Tripoli power project is part of a larger project which involves the construction of three power stations including a 640MW plant in Misrata and a 740MW plant in Tobruk. The power plants are expected to run on light fuel oil and natural gas.
GECOL has called for patience as these projects will help the country mitigate the impact of inadequate supply. When completed, the projects will improve generation capacity and also strengthen Libya’s electricity infrastructure.
Siemens and Turkish firm Enka, are in charge of the implementation and the expected timeline for completion is March 2022.
