Lightsource bp has started the construction of a 49.96MWp solar plant in Zaragoza, northeastern Spain. The company, a subsidiary of British energy giant BP has stated that it will invest over €35 million ($39.7m) in the Torrubia plant, located in La Muela municipality. The plant will comprise 93,120 bifacial solar panels installed across an area of 122 hectares. The plant will produce about 100GWh annually, enough to power 22,688 households.
Lightsource plans to begin operations on the plant by the end of 2022. Lightsource bp’s Spain country head Fernando Roger stated, “the start of the construction of Torrubia marks another milestone in our growth in Spain, showing our confidence in the country as a strategic market for the development and promotion of solar energy in Europe.”
This is the company’s third solar project in Spain this year, following the 100MW two-plant solar complex Barrica currently being developed in Teruel and the completed Vendimia Project – a cluster of five solar plants – with a cumulative capacity of 247 MW in Zaragoza.
