The UK-based solar developer, Lightsource bp, has announced plans to construct a 400MW solar farm with battery storage in New South Wales, Australia. According to a report by Renewables Now, the company plans to host a community enlightenment session to present its Gundary solar farm proposal.
The solar battery complex is expected to generate 800,000MWh of electricity per year. Lightsource estimates that its annual output will be enough the cover the consumption of 133,000 homes.
According to the developer, the project is still in the early phase. It will require an investment of about AUD 540 million (USD 398m/EUR 369.5m) to install the capacity.
Lightsource BP has committed to expanding its global solar portfolio to 25GW by 2025. In Australia, it has a large portfolio of projects under planning, development or construction. The 840MW DC Sandy Creek and 520MW DC Goulburn River in New South Wales are among them.
