Lindt Chocolate Finances Solar Kit Distribution in Ghana

  • Lindt is financing the distribution of solar lamps.

Chocolate producers Lindt & Sprüngli AG is funding the deployment of 69,000 solar lighting kits in cocoa farmers’ households in 50 districts in Ghana. London-based clean energy company Namene Solar is distributing solar lights. The Swiss chocolate maker processes most of its cocoa beans in its factories in Ghana.

Under this project, Namene is distributing its SM100 solar lamps, which have a built-in solar module. The solar lamps will be distributed across 50 cocoa districts and will benefit 1,243 rural communities. Lindt & Sprüngli stated: “Solar energy represents an incredible opportunity. Solar can light up inaccessible, off-grid areas. And the sun is something Ghana has in abundance. Solar light is a powerful tool for cocoa farmers and can be used for all kinds of tasks and activities.”
