- LSB Industries Inc considers installing two types of electrolyzers totalling 30 MW in two phases.
- The firm has signed an agreement to undertake the project with ThyssenKrupp Uhde USA.
- A 20 MW alkaline electrolyzer will be installed in the second phase.
LSB Industries Inc, a US industrial and agricultural chemicals company, has announced intentions to install two types of electrolyzers totalling 30 MW in two phases at its Pryor, Oklahoma site to create 30,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year.
The company has signed agreements to undertake the project with ThyssenKrupp Uhde USA LLC, a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp AG in Germany, and Bloom Energy, which is pending the findings of a feasibility study and subsequent board approval.
ThyssenKrupp Uhde’s engineering design will convert Pryor’s current “grey” ammonia capacity to be converted to green ammonia. Bloom will then provide a 10-MW solid oxide electrolyzer, which, when completed, will be the world’s largest of its kind.
In the second phase, a 20-MW alkaline electrolyzer will be installed, supplied by “a leading manufacturer.” According to LSB, when the second electrolyzer is finished, Pryor will be the largest green ammonia production facility in North America.
“We feel that by being an early entrant into the green ammonia field, we will be able to become a major player as the market evolves,” said Mark Behrman, president and CEO of LSB Industries. In addition, it was mentioned that having two electrolyzer technologies in operation will allow the organization to learn how to build and operate projects successfully.
