- Malawi’s ACB halts award of Energy Contracts by the Ministry of Energy
- The Contracts are for the MAREP Phase 9 projects

Malawi Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has stopped the Ministry of Energy from further awards of contract under the Malawi Rural Electrification Programme (MAREP). The ACB, in a statement, says the decision to halt all Contracts for the supply of materials for Phase 9 of the MAREP program. The ACB says the decision was taken following several allegations of corruption levelled against the Ministry of Energy.
In a statement signed by ACB Principal Public Relations Officer (PRO) Egrita Ndala, the ACB says it has ”…..instituted investigations into the matter. Following the restriction notice, the Ministry of Energy is therefore restricted from proceeding with award of contract until the ACB has concluded the investigation or lifted the restriction notice”.

Minister of Energy Newton Kambala has however expressed hope that the MAREP project will continue as scheduled despite the ACB investigations.
