President Chekwara assures of stable electricity
- Warns the Ministry of Energy to ensure supply is reliable
- Commissions Tedzani IV Power Station
Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera has assured citizens of a stable electricity supply. Speaking at the commissioning of the Tedzani IV power station in Blantyre, President Chekwara warned the Ministry of Energy that his administration would not tolerate poor supply in the country. ”Our country has suffered power shortages for far too long and should not be expected to wait any longer. Allowing Malawi to continue living in the dark ages is not a mindset that I will allow in my administration”, Chekwara said.
The governments of Japan and Malawi jointly financed the construction of the power station to the tune of K46 billion. The project will add 19.1MW (3.6% electricity demand) to the national grid and is operated by the Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) of Malawi.
