- ESCOM rejects candidate for the CEO position
- Alleges government pressure to appoint the candidate
- The candidate didn’t make the top three position in interviews
The Board of Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) has rejected the pressure from the Malawian government to appoint a preferred candidate for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ESCOM position. According to a source, the Secretary to the President & Cabinet, Zangazanga Chikhosi, was pressuring the Board to appoint the preferred candidate who didn’t make the top three following the interview sessions with prospective candidates.
”On Monday, Chikhosi served Board Chairman Mhango with an epistle removing him as Chairman from the power company & “offering” him Chairmanship of National Economic Empowerment Fund Limited [NEEF]”, the source said. The Board, however, rejected the offer causing an attempt by Mr Chikosi to fire the Chairperson of the Board.
However, the ESCOM Board has opted for Mr Raymond Lawrence Chirwa, the candidate who came first in the interviews for the CEO ESCOM position.
