Malaysia Pushes Sarawak’s Green Hydrogen Agenda

  • Sarawak held a high-level meeting with Ardian in Paris to explore partnerships in the semiconductor and green hydrogen industries.
  • Ardian plans to assess Sarawak’s projects and explore investments in local companies that support the state’s industrial growth and SME ecosystem.

Sarawak has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its semiconductor and green hydrogen industries following a strategic meeting in Paris between a state delegation led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Ardian, a leading global private investment house.

The meeting brought together Ardian’s teams from Hy24 and its semiconductor division to explore collaborative pathways that align with Sarawak’s long-term industrial transformation agenda. Discussions focused on investment opportunities, technology partnerships, and ecosystem development to boost Sarawak’s economic growth and innovation capabilities.

During the talks, the delegation presented Sarawak’s strengths in renewable energy, particularly its untapped 20GW hydroelectric potential. They also showcased the state’s growing semiconductor sector, which is backed by supportive government policies and international partnerships such as the one with CSA Catapult in the United Kingdom.

“Ardian’s expertise in scaling semiconductor ventures and clean hydrogen infrastructure aligns with Sarawak’s vision to build a diversified, high-value industrial base,” said the Deputy Premier. He added, “We see clear opportunities for investment, technology transfer, and ecosystem development that will accelerate our industrial transformation.”

Following the meeting, Ardian expressed strong interest in Sarawak’s industrial roadmap and committed to conducting detailed assessments of its semiconductor and hydrogen projects. The investment house also indicated plans to engage with InvestSarawak to identify promising local companies for future investment.

In addition to exploring large-scale industrial ventures, both sides discussed expanding the downstream ecosystem and opening up opportunities for Sarawak’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to participate in the value chain.

This engagement marks a significant step in Sarawak’s efforts to position itself as a regional leader in next-generation energy and advanced manufacturing while creating opportunities for inclusive economic development across the state.
