The South Asian archipelagic nation of the Maldives issued an Invitation for Bids for a project to build and run grid-connected solar power installations with a total intended capacity of 20 MWp. Under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) paradigm, the project calls for the development of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on 20 inhabited outlying islands.
From Sunday through August 10, 2023, interested parties may register with the Maldives finance ministry. On June 1, an online pre-bid meeting will be place, and the actual bidding will close on August 14, 2023.
This is the first multi-site land, rooftop, and seawater floating solar IPP project in the world, according to Sheharyar Chughtai, Public-Private Partnership Specialist at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which acts as the transaction advisor to the government of the Maldives.
The project will be funded by a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the state-owned utility Fenaka Corporation Ltd., according to a prior release.
