The German company Man Energy Solutions, which produces diesel engines and heavy-duty turbomachinery, has agreed to partner with Egyptian company Taqa Power to develop a green hydrogen pilot project. The Augsburg-based company will provide technical support to Taqa Power on electrolysis for a hydrogen plant solution. The hydrogen produced will facilitate public transportation.
Man Energy sees the project as vital to developing a “climate-neutral global economy” as it presents an opportunity for Man Energy Solutions to demonstrate its expertise in all stages of the transformation of the hydrogen economy. Both companies plan to commence the operations of the hydrogen pilot project in 2022. The green hydrogen produced will be used in transportation for tourist sites in Egypt.
This project follows the Egyptian government’s desire to accelerate the use of green hydrogen and reduce fossil use. The government plans to invest $4 billion in developing the green hydrogen market over the next couple of years. This project is in line with its ambition for renewable energy production. The government recently partnered with Siemens and ENI to develop green hydrogen projects.
