A 50% share in the Big Beau project, a 128 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in California with a 40 MW/160 MWh battery energy storage system, has been acquired by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC, or Masdar.
The UAE-based renewable energy developer, with whom it has a partnership encompassing 1.6 GW of renewable energy assets, purchased the ownership interest in this project from EDF Renewables North America. Their current partnership was established in 2020, and the in-question portfolio consists of five solar projects totaling 689 MW in California, including the Big Beau project, and three utility-scale wind farms with a combined capacity of 815 MW each in Nebraska and Texas.
Masdar’s CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi commented that the company is committed to growing its activities in the US over the coming years.
“I look forward to growing our presence in the US as a developer and independent power producer, as part of our targeted global expansion of reaching at least 100 GW by the end of this decade,” he stated.
