The emirate of Abu Dhabi’s clean energy company, Masdar and French utility Engie will partner to develop a 200MW plant for green hydrogen production in the United Arab Emirates. The plant Fertiglobe’s green ammonia production for Fertiglobe. As part of the agreement reached by both companies, they will work together to develop, finance, build and operate the cost-competitive green hydrogen facility. The plant, which will be located in Al Ruwais near Fertiglobe’s ammonia production plant, is set to commence operations in 2025.
Fertiglobe, a strategic partnership between Netherlands-based nitrogen producer OCI NV and UAE’s ADNO, currently has 6.7 million tonnes of urea and merchant ammonia production capacity. The company believes that partnering with Masdar and Engie will take it closer to being a market leader in green ammonia production by 2025. Fertiglobe recently unveiled [lans to construct a new 100MW electrolyser capable of producing 90,000 metric tonnes of green ammonia annually in Egypt.
Masdar and Engie plan to invest $5 billion in developing over 2GW clean energy and green hydrogen projects by 2030. This, they believe, will enhance the UAE’s energy transition.
