- Infinity Power is joining forces with the German company Conjuncta to produce green hydrogen in Mauritania.
- The two companies have just signed an agreement with the Mauritanian Ministry of Petroleum, Mines and Energy.
Mauritania’s green hydrogen market has attracted two new investors’ attention. They are the German company Conjuncta and Infinity Power, a collaboration between Masdar and the Egyptian energy supplier Infinity Energy. In order to fulfill a contract with the Mauritanian Ministry of Petroleum, Mines, and Energy for the country’s production of green hydrogen and its derivatives, the two companies recently partnered.
Conjuncta and Infinity Power will construct a green hydrogen production facility over several phases in Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania. The first phase will have a 400 MW electrolysis capacity and is expected to start up in 2028. The two companies will construct a complex with the capacity to produce green hydrogen and its derivatives, such as ammonia and other fuels, from 10 GW of clean electricity.
It is anticipated that the German business and its partner Infinity will invest over the coming years in expanding their ability to produce 8 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually for the global market. Infinity estimates that the project will generate 3,000 employments during development and an additional 1,000 jobs during the operating phase.
Conjuncta and Infinity join another partnership in Mauritania that was established by the French oil business TotalEnergies and Total Eren, a subsidiary of the British energy firm Chariot. The Noor project, which involves constructing solar and wind farms in the Mauritanian desert with a combined capacity of 10 GW, is being carried out by the two businesses. Electrolysis will be used to produce green hydrogen from this clean electricity.
To realise its project, Chariot has obtained a 14,400 km2 plot of land from the Mauritanian government, on which pre-feasibility and feasibility studies will first be conducted.
