MET Group Commissions First Solar Power Plant in Germany

  • MET Group commissioned its first solar power plant in Germany, the 11.5 MWp Kentzlin solar park, now supplying renewable electricity to 3,600 households annually.
  • The company completed development and construction within a year, marking a key step in its Western European renewables expansion.

MET Group, a Swiss-based integrated energy company, has launched commercial operations at its first solar power plant in Germany, marking a major step in its European renewable energy expansion strategy.

The newly commissioned Kentzlin solar park in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania supplies clean electricity to the German grid. With an installed capacity of 11.5 megawatts peak (MWp) and an estimated annual generation of 13 gigawatt-hours (GWh), the plant will power approximately 3,600 German households annually.

MET acquired the project in 2023 and has since completed development, secured an award under Germany’s Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) tender scheme, and managed construction through to timely delivery. EPC services were provided by IBC SOLAR, MET’s long-term partner and a leading provider of solar energy solutions.

“Bringing Kentzlin into operation is a major achievement for MET’s renewables activities and a key step in our strategy to grow in Western Europe,” said Christian Hürlimann, CEO of Renewables Development at MET Group. “Germany is one of Europe’s most competitive and mature markets, and this project is a strong foundation for further investments.”

The project also marks MET Group’s first operational renewable energy asset in Germany. The company already holds a significant presence in the country’s energy sector, operating in natural gas and electricity supply, LNG imports, and underground gas storage.

In addition, this expansion into solar power reflects MET’s broader commitment to accelerating the European energy transition. “We are strengthening our role in Germany’s evolving energy landscape and reinforcing our position as an integrated energy company committed to sustainability,” the company said.
