- MFS has completed a 10MWpp solar plant in South Africa.
- The Plat will supply power to Amazon Cloud Computing data centres via wheeling.
Mahlako Financial Services (MFS) is set to commission its solar PV plant in Khathu, South Africa’s Northern Cape province. The black-owned investment and advisory firm constructed the plant via its Mahlako Energy Fund. the energy from the plant will be sold to Amazon Web Services (AWS) via a wheeling transaction which allows remotely generated power in an area to be billed to an energy user in another area. The 10MWp Khathu solar plant will supply this energy via the state-owned Eskom grid.
Meta Mhlarhi, director of Mahlako Energy Fund and managing director of MFS, states, “with the South African government’s recent announcement at COP26 to accelerate investment in renewable energy and other sectors, we are committed to contributing to South AAfrica’sgoals of just transitioning to cleaner forms of energy.” MFS implemented the project in partnership with the Sola Group. The company notes that the project has contributed to the economic development of the Northern Cape Province and will throughout its lifetime support permanent jobs in electrical maintenance, operations and safety.
