  • Assures government support to address industry challenges.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting local power manufacturers, especially in the power sector.

In a May 28 statement, his media aide, Bolaji Tunji, highlighted this during a meeting with the Chairman of the Ogun State branch of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and Managing Director of Coleman Wires and Cables, George Onafowokan, who led a delegation to Abuja.

Adelabu assured that agencies under the Ministry of Power would prioritise local manufacturers. However, he stressed the need for these products to meet established standards.

“This will encourage other emerging manufacturers to follow suit, which is crucial for the sector,” Adelabu stated.

He emphasized the importance of working with local producers of electricity equipment. “Maintaining existing facilities is as important as new projects. Therefore, patronising local manufacturers is vital,” he said.

The minister praised the MAN’s resilience amid economic challenges. “Most local manufacturing companies have shut down. Your ability to continue shows your dedication to the country; I commend your courage,” Adelabu remarked.

He urged manufacturers to stay steadfast and assured them that the Tinubu administration actively addressed their challenges. “The light is at the end of the tunnel,” he added, expressing optimism about the government’s efforts to resolve issues faced by local manufacturers.
