- MIT scientists have developed new battery technology.
- The new technology may benefit wind, PV battery storage.
A zinc manganese dioxide flow battery has been developed by scientists of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The battery is intended to store energy for long periods and may be cheaper than other technologies. This new technology is an improvement on lithium-ion and vanadium redox batteries and is expected to scale up energy storage in wind and PV installations. The scientists expressed optimism that the new creation will significantly improve energy storage.
Thaneer Malai Narayanan, one of the scientists, said, ‘the next step is to take our battery system and build it.’
