Tony Attah calls for the utilisation of gas resources
- Says Nigeria should be deliberate about diversification of resources
The Managing Director of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited, Mr. Tony Attah has called for the diversification of Nigerian energy sources. Speaking at the 2nd virtual Nigerian Gas Association (NGA) multilogues with the theme: “Powering Forward, Enabling Nigeria’s Industrialisation via Gas”, Attah called for the utilization of Nigeria’s gas resources.
Mr. Attah made a comparison with Qatar which has seen an improvement in its gas sector since 1995. “If you look at Qatar from 1995 when they really went into gas development, we were just two years behind Qatar. So, Qatar’s first LNG was in 1997”, he said. “Nigeria’s first LNG was in 1999, just two years behind. But then, within 10 years, because of the deliberateness of the government and focus on gas, they have gone to 77 million tonnes and we are at best, 22 million tonnes”, he added.
Speaking on the efforts of the NLNG in the gas sector, Mr. Attah assured of the continuous efforts of the company to improve the gas sector. He urged the Federal Government to intensify its efforts in the development of the gas sector. “We think it’s time for gas. It’s time for Nigeria to diversify and that is why we fully support the decade of gas”, he said.
