- Morocco’s Research Institute for Solar and New Energies (IRESEN) has started constructing a renewable energy centre in the country.
- The development of the centre will be funded by the Korean International Cooperation Agency (Koïca).
The Research Institute for Solar and New Energies (IRESEN) has recently commenced constructing a research centre on renewable energies at Benguerir in Morocco. The IRESEN will develop the centre jointly with the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University. Project financing ($8 million) will be provided by the Korean International Cooperation Agency (Koïca).

When completed, the research centre will enable the development of safe, efficient and reliable energy via smart electricity grids. The centre will contain three labs, including one dedicated to the modelling, simulation and optimisation of electrical systems; automation laboratory for quality control of the electricity network; and a laboratory for micro-grid, flow management and network analysis.
