At the Africa Energy Forum in New York, Morocco’s ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, presented the Kingdom’s perspective on Africa’s energy future. Africa’s energy future reflects Morocco’s ambition to shape regional cooperation and sustainable development. Amrani emphasised that Morocco’s actions stem directly from King Mohammed VI’s vision of unity and integration.
He argued that narrow national interests should not guide Africa’s energy strategy. Instead, it must be rooted in regional solidarity and collaboration. He used the Africa-Atlantic gas pipeline, a joint initiative between Morocco and Nigeria, as a prime example. According to him, the project is not just about transporting gas. It is also about transmitting energy that fuels growth, strengthens ties, and connects continents.
The ambassador described the pipeline as a symbol of South–South cooperation, built on trust and shared responsibility. He noted that Africa can affirm its strength and resilience within this framework. With technical and environmental studies already completed, the project is entering a new stage. A specialised entity will soon oversee its implementation, ensuring structured progress.
Amrani also stressed Morocco’s role as a strategic energy hub. Morocco now serves as a forward-looking energy corridor positioned at the crossroads of Africa and Europe. The Kingdom demonstrates its ability to link continents and foster innovation through major structural projects. This role reflects both political vision and practical commitment.
Looking ahead, he highlighted that Africa’s energy future depends on transforming natural resources into engines of inclusive growth. When approached inclusively, energy drives industry, stimulates innovation, and creates jobs. Most importantly, it improves the lives of millions of Africans and builds a prosperous continent.
