- MASEN selects bidders for the Noor Midelt III solar farm, including three Moroccan firms.
- International partnerships compete for the project, aiming for a total capacity of 1600 MW across the stations.
The Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) disclosed the chosen bidders for the third solar farm in the Noor Midelt program. Three Moroccan companies stand out among the fifteen independent power producers (IPPs). Green Of Africa, partnered with Spain’s Acciona Generacion Renovable, and Nareva Holding, in collaboration with Saudi’s Acwa Power, are among the contenders. Taqa Morocco and UAE’s Masdar, alongside the consortium Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios (Spain) and Vinci Concessions (France), remain in the running. EDF Renouvelables, a subsidiary of Électricité de France (EDF), with Mitsui from Japan, has also been chosen by MASEN.
Furthermore, SPIC Huanghe Hydropower Development, the only Chinese company, has joined forces with Emirati IPP Amea Power for the bidding process. In addition, the Kahrabel FZE consortium from the UAE and France’s GDF International seeks participation in the Noor Midelt program. Meanwhile, Spain’s Iberdrola Renovables Internacional is the sole bidder for the Noor Midelt III solar power plant concession, projected to boast a capacity of 400 MWp and integrate a 400 MWh battery-based electricity storage system.
MASEN envisions the Noor Midelt complex, comprising Noor Midelt I, Noor Midelt II, and Noor Midelt III, to become one of the world’s largest solar and renewable storage capacities, totalling around 1,600 MW. The agency foresees significant opportunities for sustainable socio-economic development within the region. However, MASEN has yet to release the final results of the tender for the 400 MW Noor Midelt II power plant, despite multinational corporations such as EDF Renouvelables and Iberdrola Renovables Internacional participating in the pre-qualification phase.
