On Sunday, The President of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, announced the first cargo’s departure of Liquefied Natural Gas to ease Europe’s current gas challenges. The platform for production has a capacity of 3.4 million tons per year of super-chilled fuel, equal to about one-third of the UK’s LNG imports last year.
The British shepherd last month arrived in waters off northern Mozambique about two weeks after the Coral-Sul Floating LNG vessel, operated by Eni SpA. The tanker owned by BP Plc has the right to purchase all Coral-Sul production. The platform for production has a capacity of 3.4 million tons per year of super-chilled fuel, equal to about one-third of the UK’s LNG imports last year. However, Mozambique’s insurgencies have hindered the growth and exploration of its resource.
The CEO of Eni, Claudio Descalzi, said, “The first shipment of LNG from the Coral South project, and Mozambique, is a new and important step forward in Eni’s strategy to tap gas as a resource that can contribute in an important way to energy security in Europe”. However, this new development is expected to transform the economy of Mozambique.
