MOZAMBIQUE: Gas Projects to Resume Following Reestablishment of Security Conditions

  • Gas projects to resume in Cabo Delgado
  • Mozambique to reestablish security conditions
  • Projects suspended following a terrorist attack

The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Max Tonela, has announced that the gas projects in the Cabo Delgado province will resume following the reestablishment of security conditions in the Palma district. The northern province of Cabo Delgado was attacked by terrorists with links to the ‘Islamic State’ (ISIS) network, forcing a suspension of gas projects in the province.

The Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project implemented by Total Energies was suspended following the terrorist attack on the province. Reports also stated that contractors on the project had begun dismantling equipment at the site following the terrorist attack.

“We are hopeful that this performance by the defence and security forces will continue in such a way that not only Mocimboa da Praia but all the districts affected are retaken, thus ensuring that the population can resume their normal activities”, Tonela said.

According to Tonela, Total Energies remains committed to investing in Mozambique.
