Clean energy provider MPC Energy Solutions and French clean energy developer Akuo Energy have commenced constructing a 26.55MWp solar PV park in Colombia. The Planeta Rica project will require an investment of $24 million. Both companies will invest in the project via a joint venture as equity sponsors, while Colombian commercial bank Bancolombia SA provided debt financing.

The plant is expected to commence operations in Q3 2022. The developers will sell the electricity from the plant to a regional utility under a 15-year PPA. The power produced will provide energy for 100,000 Colombian households.

Planeta Rica is the second project developed by MPCES in Colombia. Earlier this year, the company signed a PPA with electricity retailer Renovatio Trading Americas for its 9.5MW Los Girasoles solar project.
