Nala Renewables Acquires 250MW Battery Projects in Finland

  • Nala Renewables acquired a 250 MW battery energy storage portfolio from Fu-Gen AG, raising its total capacity in Finland to over 300 MW.
  • The projects will begin in 2026, expand Nala’s European clean energy footprint, and support sustainable grid development.

Nala Renewables, a global renewable energy platform and independent power producer, has signed an agreement to acquire a ready-to-build battery energy storage system (BESS) portfolio in Finland from Swiss-based renewables developer Fu-Gen AG, the company said on Wednesday, October 8.

Once operational, the portfolio will have a total capacity of more than 250 megawatts (MW), expanding Nala’s footprint in the Nordic energy storage market.

The deal follows Nala’s acquisition in January 2025 of a 50 MW BESS project in Finland from Fu-Gen, bringing its total Finnish portfolio to more than 300 MW. The new projects span four strategic sites across Finland, with construction scheduled to begin in 2026.

The acquisition strengthens Nala’s European BESS portfolio, which includes projects in Belgium, Poland, and Romania. This reflects the company’s growing presence in Nordic and European energy storage sectors.

“Finland is a strategically important market for BESS in Europe, providing a strong business case,” said Nala Renewables Chief Executive Officer Mike O’Neill. “We are delighted to deepen our investment there and continue our partnership with Fu-Gen, whose development approach continues to demonstrate quality.”

Fu-Gen Director and Founder Lorenzo Lanteri said the company’s Nordic team had delivered another high-quality energy storage portfolio in an attractive market. “This collaboration reinforces Fu-Gen’s role as a trustworthy partner in renewable energy,” Lanteri said. “We look forward to seeing the portfolio realised at a time when energy solutions play a vital role in enhancing energy security, promoting self-sufficiency, and supporting climate targets.”

Nala said the portfolio would help advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals by enabling efficient storage and release of renewable energy, supporting a more stable and low-carbon power grid.
