Namibia, Angola Unite for Energy Future

  • Namibia and Angola’s collaboration can drive skills transfer, policy alignment, and joint infrastructure development across both nations.
  • Local content strategies ensure revenues empower citizens and sustain long-term national prosperity.

Namibia and Angola’s collaboration is shaping Africa’s emerging energy landscape. At the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) 2025 Conference, Maggy Shino, Namibia’s Petroleum Commissioner, highlighted how Angola’s decades of experience can guide Namibia’s rise as a new producer. Speaking on behalf of Presidential Advisor Kornelia Shilunga, she underlined the importance of partnership in achieving sustainable energy development.

Shino stressed that today’s unity is not about liberation struggles but energy progress. While Angola celebrates 50 years of independence, Namibia is preparing to build its sovereignty through responsible resource management.

Angola’s long oil history offers critical lessons. Namibia, with major offshore discoveries, now faces a pivotal moment. However, hydrocarbons alone cannot guarantee growth. Policies, partnerships, and sound strategies will decide if resources bring prosperity or inequality.

Both countries share borders and offshore geological similarities, providing a natural basis for cooperation. Namibia can learn from Angola’s fiscal regimes, governance structures, and local content policies.

Universities and training centres in Angola can support Namibia by preparing engineers, technicians, and geoscientists. Likewise, Namibian SMEs can collaborate with Angolan suppliers to strengthen the regional supply chain.

Infrastructure integration is equally crucial. The two nations can establish a resilient and interconnected energy market by aligning ports, pipelines, and power networks.

Local content remains central to Namibia’s petroleum policy. Shino emphasised that revenues must circulate within the economy to empower citizens, businesses, and institutions. She explained that petroleum wealth should leave behind development and prosperity, not abandoned rigs.

Ultimately, the Namibia Angola collaboration goes beyond oil and gas. It has the potential to fuel regional transformation, create shared prosperity, and strengthen Africa’s energy security.
