NamPower Begins Construction on the Khan Solar Project in Namibia

  • NamPower commences work on the 20MWp Khan solar power plant in Namibia.

Namibia’s state-owned power corporation – NamPower, has announced project commencement for a 20MWp solar power plant in Erongo Province, Namibia. The project is being developed by the independent power producer (IPP) Access Aussenkehr Solar One Namibia.

At the ceremony, Nampower stated, “The Khan solar project is a significant contribution to the realisation of NamPower’s capacity expansion, part of our integrated strategy and business plan.” According to NamPower, the IPP will invest over US$20.6 million for project development.

Access Aussenkehr Solar has awarded its solar plant’s construction (EPC) to HopSol. Under the contract, the Windhoek, Namibia-based company will install 33,000 solar panels, 100 inverters and related equipment on a 16-hectare site. The IPP will sell the electricity generated at Khan to NamPower under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
