- NCCOEE has called off its planned industrial action scheduled for today, 10th August
- Madhya Pradesh employees disregard notice, proceed on strike action
The National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEE) has called off its industrial action scheduled for today, 10th August. The NCCOEE had previously embarked on a four-day protest against the approval of the Amended Electricity Bill. Some of the proposed amendments include privatising the distribution subsector, which the NCCOEE argued will drive the state distribution companies (discoms) to bankruptcy.
Despite the cancellation of the industrial action by the NCCOEE, the engineers and power employees in Madhya Pradesh have decided to proceed with the planned industrial action. The Madhya Pradesh United Forum For Power Employees and Engineers stated that the industrial action would carry on. The Convener of the union, VKS Parihar, said, ”NCCOEE has called off the strike for the time being, but we will continue with ours,” He stated that the strike would continue at the local level. Some of the demands at the local level include the regularisation of contractual employees, promotions and pension, among others.
”During the strike, only those who work in shifts at the sub-stations have been exempted. All other staff will be on full strike. In case of (power) tripping, the complaints will not be addressed as contractual as well regular staff will be on strike. In case of any fault, supply will be affected,” Parihar stated.
