- Ncondezi Energy has launched a feasibility study for a solar power park in Mozambique.
- The solar park is expected to supply the grid by 2024
Ncondezi Energy Ltd, also known as the African power development company, has launched a feasibility study for an up to 300MW solar-plus-storage project. The project is located within a coal-based thermal power plant site project in northern Mozambique. WSP Group Africa will conduct the feasibility study, which is expected to take about four months to complete. The required permissions for the study are already in place.
The photovoltaic (PV) site is expected to be installed in the Ncondezi mining concession in the Moatize and Chiuta districts of the Tete Province. The selected site is one of three preferred locations the company has identified, each with a generation potential of roughly 500 MW.
Ncondezi expects the solar park to supply power to the grid by 2024. The company plans to secure off-takers in Mozambique and the Southern African Power Pool. The cash flow, which is fully diluted, from the project is estimated to be between USD130 million to USD180 million over the 25-year period of the project’s lifespan.
