- 412MW wind farm to be built in South Australia.
- Over 400 employments should be created throughout the construction phase.
France’s Neoen has disclosed plans to commence the installation of a 412MW Goyder South Stage 1 wind farm in South Africa. The plant is projected to be one of the biggest renewable energy systems in the country.
The wind park will be constructed as the first stage of the AUD 3 billion Goyder Renewables Zone project. In South Australia’s Mid North region, about 100 kilometres northeast of Adelaide, this massive initiative envisions the gradual installation of up to 1,200 MW of wind, 600 MW of solar, and 900 MW/1,800 MWh of energy storage capacity.
In 2024, the Goyder South Stage 1 wind farm is expected to start operating. It already has a 100-MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Australian Capital Territory, which calls for 75 GE 5.5-158 Cypress platform turbines (ACT). Australian electricity retailer Flow Power reached an agreement to purchase electricity from a 40-MW section of the capacity earlier in August.
Over 400 employment should be created throughout the construction phase, according to Neoen. When it is fully operational, Goyder South Stage 1 will surpass South Australia’s largest wind farm, Snowtown Stage 2, which has a capacity of 270 MW. On-site preliminary construction work started in January.
