- The Metoro solar power facility is being commissioned by Neoen, a French independent power producer (IPP).
- The new facility adds 41 megawatts of power to Mozambique’s national grid.
The government of Mozambique has commissioned a new solar photovoltaic facility near Metoro, a town in Cabo Delgado province’s Ancuabe region, in the country’s northeast. The project is the outcome of a public-private partnership (PPP) between the government of Mozambique and Neoen, a Paris-based independent power producer (IPP).
The park, now open for commercial operations, has 121,500 solar panels with a total capacity of 41MWp.The solar plant was built on a 138-hectare site by Efacec Power Solutions (EPC), based in Porto, Portugal.
A power purchase agreement (PPA) between Neoen and the state-owned Electricidade de Moçambique covers the solar facility (EDM). Metoro’s electricity will be fed into the national grid of Mozambique for a term of 20 years. Neoen predicts that its solar park can power 175,000 Mozambican houses while preventing 49,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions per year.
