- Test operation begins on the first seven wind turbines of the 566.5 MW wind complex.
- Full operation is expected to commence in the second half of 2022.
The Spanish company, Iberdrola SA, has announced that its Brazilian arm Neoenergia SA has commenced the test operation of the first seven wind turbines of the 566.5 MW Oitis wind power complex. The company revealed in a statement that the test operation started a month before the initially scheduled time. As a result, full operation is expected to commence in the second half of 2022.
Given the 12 wind farms and 103 wind turbines in total between the states of Piaui and Bahia, the Oitis complex is the largest of its kind for Neoenergia in the country. Upon commencement of full operation, Oitis will be able to meet the demand of a city with 2.7 million people. About 96% of the total installed capacity of the wind park is planned to be sold in Brazil’s free market. The remaining 4% is to be sold in the regulated market.
Currently, Neoenergia has 1.7 GW of wind and solar capacity, operations or under construction.
