Dutch solar project developer Groenleven, a subsidiary of German developer BayWa re, has finished deploying two floating PV plants in The Netherlands. The plants have capacities of 41.1 MW and 29.8 MW and are situated on former sand extraction lakes in Selling, in the Groningen and Gelderland provinces, respectively.
Teh first project commenced construction in May, and both projects are s being described as Europe’s largest and second-largest operational floating PV power plants by Baywa. In addition, the third-largest floating PV plant was also recently completed by BayWa in the Netherlands – the 27.4 MW “Bomhofsplas” floating PV power plant located on a quarry pond in Zwolle.
BayWa re in a released statement, notes that “the recent completion of the two new projects brings BayWa re’s floating PV portfolio in Europe to 11 projects, more than 180MWp of green energy and surpassing 300,000 floating solar panels, all of which reinforces BayWa re’s position as a market leader outside of China for floating PV.” The company adds that it deployed both projects in the deepest part of the lakes to protect flora and fauna in the banks.
