Netzence, Axxela Partner to Drive Carbon Innovation in Nigeria

  • Netzence and Axxela signed an MoU to promote carbon credits, green financing, and clean energy solutions in Nigeria.
  • The partnership aims to drive emissions reduction, create jobs, and position Nigeria as a leader in Africa’s green economy.

Netzence Sustainability Limited, Nigeria’s leading green technology firm, has taken a bold step to align economic growth with environmental protection by partnering with Axxela Limited, a top-tier gas and power company. This strategic alliance is critical when global attention is focused on climate action and energy transition.

The two companies sealed the partnership through a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed under the leadership of Mr. Timothy Ononiwu, Axxela’s acting group chief executive officer.

During the signing ceremony, Netzence’s Founder and CEO, Dr. Sadiq Sani, emphasised the transformative potential of carbon credits and green financing.

Carbon credits and green financing mechanisms offer Nigeria a powerful opportunity to diversify its economy while cutting emissions,” he stated. “By monetising carbon reduction initiatives, we can generate new revenue streams, create jobs, and attract sustainable investments. This positions Nigeria as a frontrunner in Africa’s green economy.”

Likewise, Mr. Ononiwu praised Netzence’s innovation in tracking and validating carbon offsetting. He noted, “With the infrastructure our customers invest in, Netzence has introduced a valuable technology that strengthens data integrity and adds credibility to carbon offset claims.”

Furthermore, Dr. Sani revealed that Axxela had actively supported the development of CloseCarbon Technology by granting Netzence access to complete its Proof of Concept at Axxela’s Cadbury Nigeria Plc facility in Lagos.

He explained, “Nigeria’s rich natural resources and renewable energy potential make it ideal for carbon offset projects. With the right policies and strong private-sector collaboration, we can turn climate action into a catalyst for economic growth, benefiting key industries like agriculture and manufacturing.”

He added, “The green economy isn’t just about environmental protection. It’s about wealth creation, job generation, innovation, and long-term prosperity. We must act now.”

Mr. Ononiwu agreed, stressing the importance of sustainability in modern business strategy. “Sustainability is no longer optional—it’s a business imperative,” he said. “This collaboration enables our clients to adopt smarter, cleaner energy solutions while supporting Nigeria’s climate objectives.”

The signing event also brought together key executives from both organisations. Representing Axxela were Acting GCEO Mr. Timothy Ononiwu, Director of Corporate Operations Touyo Ejueyitchie, Managing Director of AxxelaGas Distribution Kehinde Alabi, Head of Sales and Marketing Eromosele Agboighale, Financial Controller Onabokun Ayoola, and EHSS leaders John Okoro, Faith Ehiemere, and Oluwaseun Salami. From Netzence, Dr. Sani led the delegation alongside Chief Operations Officer Idia Okundaye and General Manager Awwal Abdullahi.

In conclusion, this partnership marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward a cleaner, more resilient economy. Netzence and Axxela set a new standard for climate-focused collaboration in Africa by combining technological innovation with strategic energy infrastructure.
