New York Targets 100% Clean Energy by 2040

  • New York to achieve 70% clean electricity by 2030 and 100% by 2040
  • Latest natural gas-fired plants capable of running on gas/hydrogen blends for lower carbon emissions

New York has the wind in its sails as it embarks on a journey to create a new industry that will provide thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in benefits for New York residents. It makes it home just off the coast of Long Island.

The Empire State is positioning itself as the regional hub for offshore wind development, thanks to strong political leadership, ambitious clean energy and climate policy, and innovative technological solutions. New York State passed the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, the most aggressive set of clean energy and greenhouse gas reduction targets to achieve 70% clean electricity by 2030 and 100% by 2040. The state currently has 28% renewable energy in its electricity mix.
