- Niger has extended its RFQ for a 50MW solar project.
- The deadline has been extended to 10 January 2022.
The Republic of Niger has extended the request for qualification (RFQs) deadline for its 50MW solar project. The RFQ tendered by the Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energy (MoE) was expected to close on 22 November 2021 but has been extended to 10 January 2022. The plant is expected to be developed under the IFC’s Scaling Solar programme. The solar plant is co-located with a 100 MW diesel-fueled thermal power plant that was commissioned in 2017. Both plants will share transmission infrastructure and will be connected to the medium-voltage substation in Zabori.

The IFC plans to develop the plant alongside Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), the MoE and state utility Societe Nigerienne d’Electricite (NIGELEC). The Scaling Solar program aims to make privately funded grid-connected solar projects operational within two years and at competitive tariffs. In addition, the program will create a new regional market for solar investment. The IFC provides advisory and financial support for projects across the project development stages.
