- 1,092,399 consumers metered under the MAP and NMMP so far says NERC
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has said, electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) have metered 1,092,399 customers under the Meter Assets Provider (MAP) scheme and the National Mass Metering Programme (NMMP).
According to NERC, of the six million customers targeted for metering under the MAP programme, only 508,439 customers have been metered so far. Five hundred eighty-three thousand nine hundred sixty (583,960) meters were distributed under the MAP scheme, and 5,855 customers who had paid for prepaid meters were yet to get their meters.
The All Electricity Consumers Protection Forum (AECPF) had requested the Commission to provide data on the total number of meters distributed so far by the DisCos under both programmes through a Freedom of Information (FoI) application. The AECPF responding to the report from the Commission through its National Coordinator, Adeola Samuel-Ilori, said, ”It is necessary to have this data by our group to help fulfil one of the cardinal objectives, which includes monitoring the activities of power sector stakeholders as they affect the consumers,”.
